Bringing the concert right to her
Country music fan Lilly, 12, enjoys a concert brought right to her on Oct. 3! As a quadriplegic following a car accident, Lilly depends upon a ventilator. Lilly lives in a residential unit at St. Margaret’s Center in Albany, NY, but she wished to be able to experience some of the things in life which she would have difficulty achieving on her own – like a country concert. Her volunteer wish granters found a solution: members of local group Skeeter Creek performed a concert for Lilly and a crowd of friends and staff, right at the facility.
Television crews from three stations covered the unique event, which featured Lilly front and center, enjoying the music and sunny fall day. She got the best seat in the house, and like every fan's dream, Lilly got called on stage.
“The idea was to bring everyday experiences that another 12 or 13 year old might have to bring those experiences to her here at Saint Margaret’s because we couldn’t go somewhere else,” Jared Kingsley, a volunteer Wish Granter, said.
It was a small concert for a small girl with a big heart. “I am very happy that they did this for me and I get to have my friends with me. It makes me feel like I’m home,” Lilly said.
